Learning Disability Services at Kate Meads Associates

Learning Disability Support

A learning disability happens when a person’s brain development is affected, either before they are born, during their birth or in early childhood.

At Kate Meads Associates we work with people of all ages with a range of learning disabilities such as Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Down’s Syndrome and Global Developmental Delay.

Seemingly small changes in the life of a person who has a learning disability can often have a much bigger effect on their wellbeing. Having worked for many years with people who have all kinds of disabilities, we understand this and work in collaboration with families and carers to identify immediate and longterm needs that are specific and important to the individual.

We have a great deal of experience working alongside other healthcare or educational professionals to support and enhance a child’s education and wellbeing by developing programmes that meet their specific needs. We focus on person-centred and achievable approaches which in turn can have a very positive outcome on a child’s social and daily living kills, making their experiences more meaningful and maximising their life choices.

Finding the right balance between having the right support but being able to live independently can be a concern for many families of someone with a learning disability especially as they get older. We work to enable people with learning disabilities and their families to have greater choice and control over where, and how they live, help them to lead full and purposeful lives in their communities, develop a range of friendships, activities and relationships and to participate in all forms of employment.

Some people with a learning disability may also have physical and emotional conditions, and may receive more than one diagnosis. All our consultants are dual-trained and we are therefore able to offer a wide range of services including mental health services and physical rehabilitation.
